English article about Taichung MRT knife atrack.
Yeah, I agree stabbings can happen anywhere (it’s a rare occurence in Taiwan anyway) but it seems these psychos like to target innocents in confined spaces and nowadays, with almost everyone with their noses buried in their cellphones and given the fact that MRTs are usually crowded with passengers standing inches from you, the next 鄭捷 might come about again. Fortunately, no one died this time in Taichung. I guess what everyone needs to do now is to be on Constant Vigilance.
Nowadays, when I ride my scooter and need to stop at a red light or park temporarily on the side of the road, I keep looking at my rear view mirrors to make sure no psychos come and attack me from behind with a watermelon knife.
Constant Vigilance!!

Did you hear about the guy stabbed while waiting on his scooter outside macdonalds a couple of years back? Some nutter was pissed with his GF so decided to stab a random guy.
Yeah, this is why I posted this above!
Just checked…today is the anniversary of the Taipei MRT stabbing incident…
10 years. Good catch.
Stabbing video is pretty intense.
Seems like they had a chance to bum rush him there but probably the sheer shock of the situation it’s no surprise many people were confused or scared or froze up. Damn…crazy stuff. Fortunately seems like once they were able to get him up against the wall they were able to start giving him a beating. Not sure how viable in this kind of situation it would be to try and choke him or poke his eyes out while he is pinned against the wall.
Regardless, hopefully the victims are able to have a speedy recovery.
I have some family in Taiwan at the moment and they often take the Taichung MRT on their own. Needless to say had to make a few calls. Fortunately my family were just out meeting with some friends for lunch/coffee who came and picked them up in their car.
Damn that umbrella uncle hit the wrong guy
Props to the guy with glasses and red “W” on the shirt for hitting him so hard. Could he get any punishment according to law? Just in case I ever get into this kind of situation.
It certainly may be a concern for some in some cases but for this probably should be okay.
Assailant was someone with a history of mental illness. Had traveled from Kaohsiung to Taichung with knives. Three knives were siezed by police. One knife was wrestled away from the assailant but he pulled out another knife. He dropped that knife in the scuffle which can be seen in the video but since no one is stopping him yet he quickly grabs it again.
Now this will be interesting, may be some concern if the emergency button works or not?
Some witnesses complained that metro staff had been slow to respond to the incident.
“The car was roughly 60 to 70 percent full (at the time of the attack) … I tried to push the emergency button multiple times without getting any response, the light (on the machine) was not even on,” a male witness told journalists at the scene.
Some information about the victims:
When police arrived, Hung was initially seen lying on the floor’s carriage. When they tried to remove him, he resisted arrest and police had to put him in restraints before he was sent to the hospital.
The three people sent to the hospital include a 17-year-old boy with lacerations to his chest, shoulders, and arm. A 27-year-old man suffered lacerations about 15 cm in length on his face, while Hung sustained lacerations to his face and hand.
The 17-year-old boy is reportedly seriously injured.
Taichung City Mayor Lu said the city would cover the medical costs.
The rather short and skinny boy with long hair is the real hero here!
Alone trying to stop the physically stronger knife attacker while being hit with an umbrella by a guy who doesn’t understand what’s going on. This man (boy?) is an absolute hero!!!
After the guy was pressed against the wall, everybody joined in to give him a bit of a beating, but to tackle a person with a knife who is also physically stronger in order to save lives? Alone and with others rather still hindering your efforts? Wow!
Any reason he travelled to Taichung for this? Or was it just nuts logic?
Very short (20s) news clip from TaiwanPlus news. Really wish TaiwanPlus news had videos that were a little longer…always really short.
Saw online he came to Taichung yesterday from Kaoshiung. Apparently he’s a medical student or a former medical student. Seems he was studying nursing and his internship was suspended for unknown reasons. Some have speculated it may be a deliberate attempt at a copycat incident as it’s the 10yr. anniversary of the Taipei MRT stabbings, but for now the police are investigating.
Does seem to be giving off vibes of the Taipei MRT killer who also had trouble with his studies since he was kicked out of the National Defense University before than transferring to TungHai University in Taichung then eventually killing people on the Taipei MRT.
For now though just looking forward to updates on the injured and again, wishing them a speedy recovery.
I wonder if Taichungers are less phone monged than up here in Taipei and so they were aware enough to restrain the attacker?
It says he was laying on the floor injured by the time police arrived, and had to be taken to hospital. So although the video is short it makes sense that he received quite a beating. I hope so anyway.
Thank fuck these incels can only get hold of knives and not guns.
Makes today’s attack look premeditated
Maybe he wouldn’t be hurt as much if that idiot didn’t distract him with the umbrella.
A pro-MRT knife rights enthusiast?
One does wonder what they were thinking.
