Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) and Ed Markey (D., Mass.) introduced a Green New Deal bill Thursday that, in addition to transitioning the U.S. entirely to renewable energy in ten years, promises to provide “economic security for those unable or unwilling to work.”
Provide economic security for those unwilling to work?!
Yeah. Nothing socialism about that. Should do wonders for the opioid crisis, too. Does anybody see this as an investment in America? Or an expenditure?
This is going to go over like a lead balloon. AOC is in dire need of more life experiences than political skilz.
All of the proposals make sense but the time frames are ridiculous good luck with that.
Edit: I was talking about the proposals in the OP, not the batshit crazy provide aid to those unwilling to work remarks.
Surely the Dems will tell her to fall in line and be quite as a freshmen congresswoman? She’s been making a lot of noise and not always in a good way while voting against the dems.
Let’s see…she kind of forgot to keep her Senate backer, Ed Markey of Massachusetts, in the loop.
Whoops.
Giselle Barry, a spokeswoman for Senator Ed Markey, a Massachusetts Democrat who is the Green New Deal’s lead Senate backer, disowned the fact sheet and said Markey’s office wasn’t consulted before it was sent out. “We did not draft that fact sheet,” she said.
Markey sought to do damage control at a midday press conference, emphasizing the proposed resolution doesn’t address specific energy technologies. Language on nuclear power “is not part of this legislation,” he said. “The resolution is silent on any individual technology that can move us to a solution.”
After the dustup on nuclear power, Corbin Trent, a spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez, said a new fact sheet was being prepared.
“I’m sure it has some co-sponsors scratching their heads,” said Jeff Navin, who served as acting chief of staff for Ernest Moniz, President Barack Obama’s energy secretary.

I like how AOC spokesperson said a new fact sheet was being prepared.
AOC wants to live truly like the Flintstones.
I hope people don’t believe that AOC grew up poor or was disadvantaged. Her father was an architect who died intestate, and she claims her political awareness was sparked by a long probate battle in court for his estate.
Poor and disadvantaged Americans do not fight long and costly probate battles, far from it.
She grew up in Westchester County in the Bronx, NYC, which is not exactly a place of financial destitution.
Given that she’s a Democrat, I understand why she would don the mask of poor brown girl, but it’s an act. Like many Democrat women she identifies with poor brown people from a position of privilege and power, not from a position of shared experience.
Ageism is an interesting prejudice because there is a fair degree of logic to it. Would it be bigoted to refuse to fly in a plane flown by a 98 year old? Similarly, is it prejudicial in some way to knock a 29 year old’s plans to completely overhaul the world’s largest economy? She’s certainly not lacking in confidence, particularly as it appears she didn’t seek any consultation within her party about her plans.
I like her ideas. Some of which, with a bit of tweaking, could be workable. For example, a law that all new builds must have solar panels on the roof is a no-brainer (I await the no-brains to mention clouds and nightime).
Massive population crash is the most probable outcome, but it would be nice to have a crack at other options first.
In other words, she comes from a more affluent background but still cares about people from less affluent backgrounds and wants to help them have a better life.
Not as big of a threat to the US as the Putins toy poodle in the oval office. Real world capitulation to Russia seems to bother you less than the made up variety youre inventing. I wonder why
I feel like it will come to bite her later… it is just about the party being more content with the lack of displaying some sort of education I think. I don’t really consider myself Democratic or Republican but from what I see they’re (AOC-heads, really) much less about hardcore facts but feelings and their exposition is getting hard to take seriously by the minute.
