The Carrefour 2021 Thread

Yeah across the stream from Cheng Hsin Hospital. Not much to get excited over.

I thought that area was famous for the two cat cafes.

I wonder if the big French hypermarket Au-Chan will buy it to add to their Taiwan markets? I sometimes go to the location of the hypermarket in Kaoshuing-Fengshan to buy their AuChan label items, but no central city locations. If they bought Carrefour they would be much bigger.

Takeshi Kaneshiro used to live there!!!

In other news, what are the chances of CitySuper expanding here? I know I am dreaming but boy, that’ll be nice. Maybe the prices would be lower.

Or a nice Japanese chain with lots of Japanese products.

Aren’t they in a joint venture with RT-Mart?

Seems to be only one RT-Mart in Kaohsiung, quite a few in the BeiBeiShi so I guess Carrefour might be a good buy if they are more plentiful in the south.

Yes, they work with RT mart. I prefer Carrefour but if someone bought it I guess Auchan+RT Mart would be ok

Aaand the new Carrefour in Nangang seems open:

Apart from that, there was some rumors that Carrefour would soon completely leave the Taiwan market. Was this discussed already in this thread?

Yes, why, did you hear anything?

Ah, gotta scroll back even further - seems old news. Sorry, nothing new that I heard, just didn’t find it when scrolling back - I only made it to the store music discussion ^^

Wasn’t Matsusei (sp??) a Japanese chain? It seemed to be mostly Japanese + Western imports. And it was everywhere. Then they all became PxMarts

Good fruit, too.

In hindsight, I miss those guys.

They (Auchan) were here as GĂ©ant, than got in with RT. (correction: Geant is actually owned by Casino Group)

The Carrefour near me is shit. They need a PX mart type song.

GĂ©ant is A-Mart

Like Dinghao’s rock song?

Geant = Casino (my bad)
Auchan = RT-Mart

I think AuChan is different than GĂ©ant, the only common things is they are Hypermarkets and French. Auchan seems from locations in France much bigger.

Charles Kruse is actually quite direct for a CEO. I particularly enjoyed how he tactlessly implied logistics are hopeless in Asia. Certainly hasn’t improved much since 2004, how many times do you go to the supermarket here and something disappears for months!

It’s a good interview, helped by an attentive journalist. I wish the Taipei Times did more of this kind of journalism as they used to do in the 2000s.
