Typhoon 2014

I’ve got soaked wet in my way to work. In Taichung. It took 30 seconds, no time to get raincoat out, damn. Suddenly heavy rain then sun. But on my 14th floor was actually quite cool, first time in a while when I could sit in my living room without AC.

The current animated display:

The damage in Okinawa was this time not out of the ordinary, so to speak, and what happened in Japan is also not extraordinary, really.

The only thing that is noteworthy is that it was a very large typhoon - and this is unusual in July.
(Fred Smith take note: this doesn’t prove anything.)

The next one is coming up: meat “Nine”: usno.navy.mil/JTWC/

link doesn’t work, either it filters non US connections or something else is up…

Both links work where i am. Never heard of any country-based filtering… :ponder:

I can’t use it, either.

I used to have the one with the paths predicted by all relevant agencies, though. That one is real fun when they disagree.

That problem looks like a DNS problem with your provider(s). :frowning:

The server exists and is online. And i can access it fine.
Sorry, i can’t do more than suggesting that you may want to try again later or use a proxy server to get through
( here’s a list of proxies: publicproxyservers.com/proxy … ntry1.html )

Yep, both Yahoo and Google have it at the top when searching for this:
Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC)

Nope. Won’t open. maybe it is the security settings here, but I remember having the same problem at home.

Same provider at work and at home? (Possible.)

In any case, i’d suggest that you give the proxy servers a try: just call up one of them and simply enter the URL of the typhoon site into the appropriate field on the proxy’s page. One thing to know about proxies of that sort is that their quality (and annoyance factors, because of ads, etc.) varies, so you may have to try out a few to find a good one.

Another one brewing, tropical storm Nine. tropic.ssec.wisc.edu/# looks to be 120 hours out, and at most effects the south of Taiwan, if at all. Then again these things have a nasty habit of veering north.

Weather Underground has it heading straight the Philippines as a Cat 3 on it’s 5 day forecast.

The current GFS computer model has it turning north just short of the Philippines and shooting straight through the middle of Taiwan at the moment.

edit: the model seems to have been adjusted southwards to pass south of Taiwan.

Looks like Luzon is going to get hit by a typhoon this week.

Eh, I’ll try that from home, from work I’ll get them all freaked out.

Wow, it seems like something is brewing nearby again, but probably won’t be a typhoon. I can’t access the JTWC website so just anticipating rain based on satellite photos.

Manila is been stroke hard by some Typhoon today… I do hope here it happens the same and I can enjoy some movie at home instead of coming to the office…

i used to think the same but then the price of groceries goes up every time a typhoon hits. so i wish for them to stay away.
