It will be localized lines, boxes, transformers etc. Taiwan is pretty robust now. If a line goes down, it’s not like all of kaohsiung is out due to larger scale power failures. I must give credit to Taiwan Power company, they are working 24/7 during typhoons (the poor bastards teally should be paid more than most of us considering how important they are and how dangerous the work can be). Seen them all over the place these couple days filling stuff. Tainan, kaohsiung, taitung and hualien. Credit given where credit is due. I assume other areas are the same, that’s just where I am driving around.
Good job Taiwan. Where I origijally come from, a crickets fart could give us 2 weeks of darkness. Here, real issues like typhoons and we are usually up and running right away. Priority given to major infrastructure, hospitals and all that logical stuff. Even when my roof blows away, I still often have power next day, and fast/cheap internet gotta love taiwan!
May be the calm before the storm in Taipei City. Just got back from a Carrefour grocery/beer/wine run that entailed a healthy bus ride and walk. Rain just beginning but just spitting. Hardly any wind yet. Very humid. I expect things will start to pick up soon.
Really strong wind blowing now. The eye is near Budai which is about 25km from here according to the radar. I think we’re in for a pretty rough night in this neck of the woods.
Chiayi City. Power went out about 30 minutes ago as I was filming the effects of the winds. Been through quite a few typhoons over the years. This is the windiest I can recall. The whole apartment building is shaking and it feels like the windows are at their breaking point (one door is visibly being “sucked in” due the air pressure differential). It feels like the bed is vibrating. I have windows on the east and west. Sounds and feels like the worst is passing by right now. Look out up north! Keep safe!
My power has been out for 6 hours now. 2 bedrooms flooded with water coming through the windows and the ac. Also my kitchen roof has partially collapsed. Looking outside I can see many fallen trees, some fences blown over and plenty of debris on the road. This all happened just after the eye passed my area, then after an hour the wind dropped.
