US Election Polls and Predictions

This one’s in the bag folks. My work is done here today. I’m signing off for a while. You can watch the rout unfold at the following link. Looking like a landslide. People have seen through McSame and made up their minds.

Whew! Thank goodness for those lily-white Democrats, then. Just as well Americans can count on them to be honourable, truthful and straighforward

It’s a matter of degree. I never said the Dems are paragons of virtue, but since the time of Nixon the Republicans have consistently been far sleazier and more dishonest than the Democrats.

just alittle inside info … I have been engaged in phoning folks in Ohio regarding the election and folks in Ohio are fired up over the economy and very pro Obama. Polls cited bbly others showing Obama ahead in many key battleground states. Yes we have alittle less than month to go and anything can but it is sure looking good for Obsma. Expecting McCain to get ugly in the debate tonite. If McCain can convince voters that Obama lacks judgment in his choice of “pals” such as Bill Ayers and Rev Wright then may help his cause. Don’t think he has a strong case though. We’ll see.

Interesting. In the current climate, I would assume any association with Bush et al would be deadly at the polls. Should be, certainly will be in six months time when the real impact of his economic mismanagement is felt!

McCain really needs to win Florida, but he goes out and says he will cut a trillion dollars from Medicare. Maybe he doesn’t understand Florida. Most people look at Florida and think, “There’s a lot of old retired people there.” McCain looks at Florida and thinks, “These youngsters don’t know what’s good for them.”

That’s my perception of the politicians out there on the campaign trail as well. But Chris, I think we should (out of consideration for our Republican friends online here) try a little harder to distinguish between ‘the Republicans’ (politicians) and those voters who are registered Republicans or who identify as such. I’ve failed to do so in the past, and hurt some feelings unnecessarily. The truth is, the vast majority of the Republican Forumosans I’ve met are great people, and I’ve never seen any indication of sleaziness or dishonesty on their part. I’m sure you’ll agree.

As long as they abandon the whole ‘guilt by association’ tack.
If you want your cake, you have to eat it too.

Oh, the fun Fred Smith could have had with that line.

I suppose I should make it clear (and will do so explicitly in the future). When I talk about “Republicans” and “Democrats”, I’m almost always referring to the candidates and the incumbent politicians; sometimes also pundits, talk show hosts, columnists, special interest groups and religious leaders. In my recent rants and criticisms, I have not been talking about individual voters or supporters of these parties.

I’ve met many of the prominent Republicans in the Forumosa community, and have found all of them honest, genuine and good folk. Comrade Stalin and Fred Smith proved fun people to meet and have a beer (or fine champagne) with. I have great respect for Tigerman, Hobbes and jdsmith, who provide enlightening insight into online discussion, and I’ve learned a lot from them. One of the few I haven’t met in person, Tainan Cowboy, I also know from PMs and such to be a decent and upstanding fella.

So to clarify once again: I’m not talking about the voters or supporters, much less any of the fine folk at Forumosa. I’m aiming my criticisms squarely at the people at the top. (I’m also critical of many Democratic politicians, like Lieberman and Feinstein, but hey, it’s the campaign season right now…)

Kumbayaaaa my Lorrrrrd, Kumbayaaaaaaa, ohhh Lorrrrrrrd, Kumbayaaa…

I judge everyone I meet as an individual. But if individuals choose to identify with a political party that habitually runs sleazeball tactics, then they should expect to receive due criticism. That doesn’t translate to believing that every Republican a liar and scumbag (obviously), but nor does it mean that the Republican base is some kind of island independent of their candidate. Without the base, there would be no Republican party.

I don’t like the Republican party much…
How the hell is Palin’s disastrous interview Kate Couric’s fault, liberal bias huh? But then why have to other GOP figures not had similarly disastrous performances?
Many people in the GOP base are also xenophobic, homophobic, reactionary, and racist. Some senior GOP politicians are not beyond playing up to these sentiments when it is politically expedient.

Some opinions from McCain/Palin supporters…he’s a terrorist! It’s in his bloodlne!

Uhhhh… why did they boo the mention of the New York Times? :loco:

And those guys outside…what nutcases!! Obama’s an Islamic terrorist, a Russian and a European Socialist? At the same time? The ugly face of right-wingerism. :loco:

Those odds are stretching thin, was 2:1 about two weeks back, then went to 3:1 about 10 days ago. now is 5:1

Ladbrokes 9:2
BlueSq 5:1
888Sport 5:1
Pady Power 5:1

and you dont want to even look at the return on an Obama bet, 10c on the dollar. So anyone thinks its to early to call, these guys are putting their money where their mouth is, and I trust that as an indicator more than the spin in the press.

Here we go:

At a McCain rally supporters shout terrorist! kill him! at the mention of Obama.

These are some views expressed by McCain/Palin supporters.

This is what Obama had to say about it:

This is the response from the McCain campaign:

And a follow up:

firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/ … x#comments

So is the McCain campaign condoning people shouting “terrorist” and “kill him” at McCain/Palin rallies? Were Obama’s words really an “assault on [McCain/Palin] supporters”, or really quite a low level response given the insults directed at him?
A truly bizarre statement from the McCain campaign, which really has sunk to the absolute depths…

Can’t get it to work when posting here. Go to dallasmorningviewsblog.dallasnews.com and search for “McCain and Palin’s lynch-mob tactics”, the video provides a good summary.
