Thatd be some yooful internyet jive, I suppose, which I don’t do, though I suppose I can guess.

A propos (of low internyet fluency) , how do you make a NEW post in this thread as opposed to replying?

Must be so obvious I cant see it.

Different buttons provide different functions:

How come just about every time I do a puncture repair on an “acquired” bicycle it has the WRONG (too long) inner tube in it doubled over?

Beyond chabuduo, or whatever the Chiwanese is for half assed.

Just happened again.

Pisses me off so much I might have to go and actually buy a new inner tube and see if they try and sell me one that is too big, but probably no one in the history of Taiwan has actually bought their own inner tube so it might not be easy.

Thanks. Was pretty obvious, but I didn’t see it.

Used to be a coffee shop in NCKU run by a respectable middle aged lady. She caught me decorously using a toothpick in there one afternoon and gave me a finger wagging telling-off for being an uncouth foreign barbarian.

By way of finale she let rip a colossal fart, then howked up a gold watch and spat it in the sink.

Seemed genuinely puzzled by my near hysterical laughter.

Follow-up to the murder of the Malaysian student last year and the lack of action by the police.

Three police officers in Tainan City accused of improperly handling a police report that could have potentially helped prevent the murder of a Malaysian female student last year, were impeached and referred to a disciplinary court on Tuesday

The student reported that she screamed for help and was able to break free, but Kao did not record the case in his work log or fill out any paperwork on the case, with his supervisor Chang failing to correct him, it said.

On Oct. 29, a press release from the precinct falsely stated that the first student never reported the attempted abduction to the police.
Yang also falsely said on Oct. 30 that the student had been unable to provide key information on the suspect and declined to file a report, which severely damaged the image of the police, it said.

I smell some serious demerits coming.

They didn’t question me either, despite the fact that I’m foreign and my car was parked about 5m away.

OK, they already had a bang-to-rights suspect in custody, but that never stopped the UK plod.

Should be more than fired…sadly this response is probably due to the “damaged image of the police”…

Don’t know if it was just pure incompetence or the not wanting to do paperwork angle…

A SE Asian friend a few years ago got blocked from leaving a convenience store one night by some guy (some random low class middle-age guy) who starting cursing at him (the guy was being racist and didn’t like the “dirty” people in Taiwan) and threatening him and even took a glass beer bottle and put it next to my friend’s head to try and goad him into reacting all whilst threatening him he will hit him. The convenience store worker called the police and the officer let the other guy just walk away and told my friend don’t engage with him or fight back, even if it was self-defense or risk getting deported, and the officer on scene suggested that my friend apologize to the other guy and even try offering him a basket of fruit.

We’re still not sure if it’s because he’s SE Asian or simply the officer trying to get out of having to write a report…and to clarify this friend is fluent in Chinese so there wasn’t any misunderstanding in terms of what was being said.

That kind of stuff happens alllll the time to foreigners, I expect to locals too.

Wrong thread for this discussion but.

Understand the language used by the media in Taiwan when discussing foreigners. Often SEA are called workers or something other than employee. That shows a good insight into how they are thought of. One group are employees the other group are workers. This use of language is by design and cultural.

My wife was arguing with her family about their treatment of their employees. Both SEA and Taiwanese. Her fathers response I don’t want to say. But it was similar to “they are mine “ the rest you imagine it.

Word on the street, he is going to be getting two Donald Duck demerits, and one Mickey Mouse demerit. He is really going to think seriously about his conduct after that.

I bought ear plugs, fancy 3M ones . They don’t work at all because apparently my ear holes are too big. Asians must have smaller ear holes. Can I ask for a refund ?

Depends on what they claim about the product.
Is there a recommendation on the size? Does 3M claim that it will fit all ears?

I’m not being serious.
