Where can I make friends? aka the find-a-friend thread

Well you and I still get 'wow you speak Chinese ’ twenty years later so …Yeah I can imagine that.

im lonely need someone to hang out with

Hello everybody, I am a thirty something expat guy in Taipei looking to meet new people. My hobbies include reading fiction, learning about history, a little travel, tabletop games, old movies, and tai chi. Feel free to say hello. My current location is in Neihu district.

(Should I post this in another subforum btw?)

@Happyfist, just wait a bit until you ask about @Wilsonckao’s surgical glove supply.

Welcome to Forumosa. Your introduction truly felt like a blast from the past . I mean it could have been written back in the year 2000 or before. I mean that in a good way .
@Icon

What are you at about, Willis? :face_with_monocle:

Happyfist? Really?

Pretty damn niche if you ask me. Still it’s good to be upfront about these things. :eggplant:

One of funniest things I’ve read on here, Foreigners do not want to socialise with other foreigners you have to pass each other every day for a year before one or other will say hello.

Flatmates is only way to make same or foreign nationality friends in Taipei.

Or of course, go to a bar get hammered and talk to anyone, works for me.

There might an age factor at play, at least by my reckoning. Young foreigner with local partner, no chance at even a hello, will avoid all contact with me, possibly smell lifer on me, or thinking I don’t want to end up like him, I’m awesome and original. Don’t know.

Older dude, generally get the nod, not in a broey fellow white person type way, but just acknowledgement of the other’s existence. That’s cool too.

Popping back into this thread since I’m now a lifer on the island. ABC woman in Taipei always looking to make new friends. If you’re going to be here for longer than a year, drop me a message!

My friends and I like to go to quiet bars, bistros on the weekend, stand-up comedy, hiking when it’s not hot, and travel around.

Interesting choice of words, under the circumstances …

 So … how are you coping?

Sorry, not sure I catch why?

Was bored as hell the first few works or so :joy: but make lemonade, eh? I’ve been video chatting with friends and family back in the States for a year, so it wasn’t a huge leap to do so with my friends here.

There’s been a lot of silver linings and two months later, I’m actually really glad for this amount of time at home. I’d been meaning to konmari my stuff for years and finally managed to do so. Started a lot of healthy routines e.g. home cooking every meal and quick daily workouts. I’m actually in better shape than before and saved a ridiculous amount of money from not pursuing the usual with friends.

It wasn’t as terrible as I’d thought and what I really want to do is travel internationally anyway, so wasn’t missing out on much during level three. How are you doing?

Do you guys want to have a meet when bars open in Taipei?

It seems Finley views the term “lifer” as a reference to a prisoner stuck, well, for life.

It seems though that you’re making the most of it!

Figured I ask here and revive this thread…
I lived in TW the whole year 2021, was only here for 1 year on WH visa and I had my group of friends here (all of us just came here to wait for covid to be done so we could go back to Korea where we used to live ) but life happened all my friends are back home or back in Korea and I’m back in Taiwan and planning to stay long term
Since this was not exactly a plan, I never really made any friends outside of my friend group when I was here last year.

Normally you would have roommates or work colleagues to make possible friends with, but since this time I live with my bf, and I work from home, I’m kinda screwed on that front.

So I guess my question is, any girls here (Taipei) down for a beer, or some food, a beach day, a hike, a picnic in a park… Basically any type of hangout really, I’m not picky
I’m 28yo from Slovakia, and I hope there are some fellow down-to-earth souls here :crossed_fingers:
