Why *some* East Asians *might be* Racist Against Indians *sometimes*

Why is it ignorant? He was my friend in school in Texas. His family owned a 711 gas stations and now they own many 711s and are doing quite well last I heard. Some people did make fun of him as Apu but jokes on them because his family scaled up a successful business operation across Dallas suburbs.

You should like the ignorant person if you’re looking down at someone owning a business :man_shrugging:

I didn’t stereotype them or say anything about his job. You’re the one generalizing based on your one friend…

But whatever, no point arguing

It was a light hearted joke. I think you’re coming off too sensitive

Easy to say this when you don’t face any of the stereotyping that Indians face (even in Taiwan) on a daily basis

I’m sorry you’ve faced discrimination but that has nothing to do with me calling me ignorant when making a light hearted joke in a thread that started with jokes.

You don’t see me get all sensitive over Taiwanese being cheap in the discussion :man_shrugging:

This stereotype might not be as valid with the second generation.

Hmm I’d say Indian-Americans are stereotyped as both being wealthy and as being 7-11 store owners in the US. Haven’t really faced any Indian stereotypes in real life too often in any countries I’ve been to/lived in though (including Taiwan, Japan, and Korea). I didn’t even know about the street shitting one until I went on 4chan. I do think being Indian definitely hurts a bit when it comes to dating/anything to do with looks, but other things such as height and overall looks matter much more.

But you can do the voice, right? Right?

This thread title keeps getting watered down.

I left out an important detail (that was included in the video). Bobby’s parents owned the store. So over time, they would know which groups did that more.

After some discussion we changed it once, but I could temp it if you don’t think that’s enough

I’ve never heard this.
Addendum: Never seen it either.

It says two changes.

Did you get notifications to say who made what changes? Mods only made the one that I know about

In hindsight, we should have just done the easy thing and put it in temp

Im on a mobile so hard to say for sure but looks like @OysterOmelet made the first edit to clean up some grammar.

Bobby Lee (the comedian) said that his parents hated hate how Indians would walk in a store, not buy anything, then walk out.

Hate to hated or something like that.

Changes to the post’s content are numbered sepaeately from changes to the title. Former at the bottom of the post. Changes to the title at the top.

Dwight Howard IS a celebrity.

Yeah, Japanese mostly like Americans (and Euro’s a lot). But a lot of older and now younger based on how you look.

Did he get some big award, I thought I saw it in the news

Let’s not forget about the Indian caste system. Those in glass houses should not throw stones.
