2024 August Dual Nationality Petition Open Discussion

Many have already signed. You don’t speak for them.

But you do I see.

Nope.

Sure you do. You told me, a Taiwanese, not to help with the petition.

They’re not coming spreading negativity, being condescending or repeating the same stories over and over again that have nothing to do with the petition. So I really don’t know what you’re trying to achieve by doing so.

So you want to teach us we don’t deserve citizenship? Why thank you wise old sage…

So you want to tell us if we wanted to naturalize we could give up everything and do so?
No sorry different situation than yours.

I’ll continue to fight and support the petition in a positive and constructive manner. Not sure what you’re doing here.

Yes because in my opinion you could do more harm than good. Just judging by the fact of what you post here.

Telling everyone we don’t deserve it. We can just naturalize anyhow. See it’s easy.

Funny how he goes on about his Israeli citizenship. Non jews immigrating to Israel are required to renounce all foreign nationalities to get Israeli citizenship where as Jewish Israelis are allowed dual citizenship. Where have I seen that before? lol

So I should just parrot your opinions and not have my own I see.

Yes I could not find any section on the form where is asks if you deserve citizenship. Clearly that question should be added? Yes you can naturalize and yes it’s easy to do so nowadays. You choose not to as you want the benefit of having dual or multiple citizenships. A fair point seeing we Taiwanese are allowed to do that. But again you choose not to naturalize because you don’t like the terms and conditions. I get it.

Where did he say you don’t deserve it?

Where did I state anything like that?

I have. I have spoken directly to MPs. I’ve chased them on the campaign trails.

I can assure you not everyone is on board. It took my friend in the party 5 years to fully realise the challenges. I spoke to a few on the campaign trail this year. And it was a harsh reality. He was polite about it but expressed that he wasn’t able to put any energy into it. This is in a parliament in which we cannot afford even one DPP MP to say no. And he said no.

I know after doing this kind of activism to varying degrees of effort over the past 7 years that there are numerous reactions, some I never foresaw.

This is a harsh wakeup call. That not everyone is going to be supportive and it will take a lot of work. I can assure you that if I went to politicos and told them I deserved this, I’d have been laughed out of their sight.

Nobody is spreading ‘negativity’. I am allowing a diversity of opinions because the people you are appealing to are going have different reactions. They will range from fully hostile to fully supportive. This thread is not an echo chamber and I will not allow it to become one. Nobody here deserves Taiwanese citizenship. Some become eligible to apply. And if you meet the requirements they may choose to make you a citizen or not. You are eligible now if you choose to renounce. But nobody is entitled to naturalisation.

You want something from them. Me too. All of us do.

But I know well enough if I want something, dressing them down and telling them i deserve it is not going to get what I want as it will not endear me.

Because there is diversity in opinions, it is imperative that we know and understand where people come from in order to counter their concerns and alleviate them. I want all opinions to flourish. Having concerns that counter your beliefs is not going to hinder the campaign.

Public opinion does not come from politicians. I understand why they would be hesitant to support a group that has no voting rights.

They are most certainly spreading negativity in addition to post after post that has nothing to do with the petition whatsoever. Many have already said so.

I’m not the only one who has pointed this out to you. Opinions can vary but ultimately the discussion is specifically about naturalization without renunciation.

Who is dressing down? I do not consider the two here a representative of the Taiwanese population whatsoever. Nor would I ever consider telling Taiwanese that I deserve and they should give me.
Instead every person I’ve talked to, apart from one or two, realizes the injustices once you explain the reality of the current law.

Why? Because Taiwanese are well-educated enough to see when something is not right. So this campaign should be about spreading information.

These two could have become advocates but instead they’ve chosen to tear down the petition or other foreigners at every turn. That is not just sharing an opinion, but what looks like to me, as deliberate sabotage. They’re allowed to have that opinion and I’m allowed to have mine.

I don’t hear people saying that is the approach. Nor do I think lobbying MPs to be the most effective. This should be a grass roots campaign focused on spreading information.

If anybody deserves criticism it’s those two, how about we leave the rest of Taiwan out of it?

Opinions are great. I’d like to hear from the majority of Taiwanese.

No but continuously derailing the discussion isn’t going to help either. Otherwise, I could make AI photos of everything I had for breakfast this week.

You might not be happy to hear what they think based on the majority of comments posted on Xiaofei’s video where people don’t support the campaign …

And how many of those actually understand the law?.You can quickly see when they mention China that they don’t. So obviously the challenge is spreading information. Once they do understand, the only conclusion is that something needs to change.

Now what is the purpose of your comment? Are you trying to educate me? That seems pointless.

So they’re all just ignorant?

Not at all. You said that you’d like to hear from the majority of Taiwanese regarding the petition… I just gave you a penthouse view of what they’re saying.

So it’s only @anon24369109 and I standing in your way…. Right….

If you say so.

Anything that doesn’t parrot you is negativity? No wonder you’re a good businessman as you say…

No, but a politician…

A) has disproportionate power to change this

But my point is, I have to be in tip top shape to counter people’s concerns.

B) is an example of someone that might have concerns. People have concerns you aren’t going to like.

One, you can point it out to me all you want, but I let varying opinions to do so. It’s not an echo chamber, it will never be an echo chamber. Rule breaking posts are dealt with. If you can’t handle differing opinions, to me, I wonder how you will react when Taiwanese people express differing opinions.

One recently asked why they should give up the beneficial arrangement. There are many people in Taiwan who are OK with discrimination if it benefits them.

You keep coming back to @comfy123 and @anon24369109. You’re missing the point. In this fight, you are eventually going to deal with members of the public who are not going to be on board immediately and if you are not able to act in a way that respects their differing view while learning their sides and concerns, you are going to fail cause you need their support just as much as the ones that have been supportive to you so far. I’m happy you have found supportive people, but there are 24 million people here in this country.

Did you not say this? Given that I was already sworn at once today, It leaves me questioning if this is being done to locals that also say things that counter what you say. If anyone swears at me, I definitely won’t help them.

I haven’t mentioned them once. I keep saying Taiwanese people and you keep coming back to them. I keep telling you in real life you are going to encounter those with different opinions.

Painting people with the same brush is still painting people with the same brush.

There are people who don’t see an issue with discrimination against others.

There are people who don’t like SEAsians because they’re browner.

Numerous Taiwanese business owners/managers see no issue with workers’ rights violations.

They certainly don’t seem to think pedestrians have many rights.

They’re people. Your mileage will vary. Many people will not ‘see when something is not right’. You might have to educate persistently.

They’re people. Is it possible that your sample size has a bias? Are you talking to Yilanian farmers? Are you talking to old ladies that push carts full of recycling to the scrapyard? Etc…

They have been. But if you are unable to tolerate their opinions, then are you tolerating those who disagree with you in the real world too?

That’s not the only thing I do.

Please stop making this personal.

They have the right to have an opinion.

Well you can’t get that. You’re one person and you can’t ask 24 million people.

Backseat moderating is against the rules. Everyone start learning to tolerate each other.

So?

Reading skills.

Oh come on. @anon24369109 and I signed the petition and we support the petition….

However, advocating clearly means to just echo what you would like people to say?

@Malasang88 you, me and @anon24369109 and @Marco are on the same side.

We all support the petition. This is meant to be a friendly discussion and of course we’re going to bring up different views etc

For example, I even mentioned for the record how I support it and hope it reaches 5,000

@anon24369109 said it should go further and even remove the TARC and give citizenship to children of PR

The only person who is causing friction is you.

A lot of racists tend to congregate on online channels where they hide behind usernames. Not surprising they would come out for this YouTube channel. Likely this campaign has made it to local racist web forums as well and these cave dwellers are having meltdowns.

Racists/xenophobes just want you to teach their bratty kids, stop complaining about the $500 hr pay rate, be OK with laobans ripping off foreigners and then you go home without a fuss after a year.

That’s fortunately not the group who this petition is targeting anyway
