Hi,
i’ve gotten used to posts in the classifieds section having a bright red background - but i increasingly see various threads in other forums with the same bright red background - it is annoying. What can i do to get rid of that background colour? (No idea whether anybody else sees the threads in the same manner, if not, a techie may have to log in as me and take a look that way).
Here are some of the threads that are not classified ads and that have a bold red background when i am logged in, grouped by section:
They did not give me one in my US passport this year, but a friend said, NOPE. You just need to show your ARC when you come back to the ROC. No sticker now. It says “Multiple Re-entry permit” on the ARC. Really?
I was originally going to place this in the travel section but the New Topic button seems to be missing. Mods, please feel free to place this into the travel section.
Anyhow, I took a short trip to Osaka and was dissapointed with the overall experience. There are some amazing sights, very beautiful temples, but in the end I was dissapointed with the people as a group. The Japanese are a very polite and helpful bunch, but I was a little sad with how difficult it was to talk to people or get to k…
Okay, here’s your chance to direct MM on his adventures across Alaska. I can stay here in Tok (a hamlet noted only for a diner that caters to the RV crowd), drive to the Canadian border (noted for being a border), or drive up to Chicken (a hamlet noted only for the fact that it should have been called Ptarmigan, the state bird, but no one knew how to spell that).
You have an hour. I am currently in the above mentioned diner using their electricity and wifi, but I’d like to leave soon.
A friend of mine in Hualien just told me that he got a cheap booking for early June on one of the Cruise Ships that go to Ishigaki from Keelung once or twice a week over the summer. His fare is less than NT$9000, which and sounds like a good deal but looks like a special deal, since there is no fare that low offered on the Starcruise reservation page (their fares start at about NT$15000). But it may be worth looking into this mode of transportation and contact the travel agency to see whether a …
Okay, I get airfare for my son an I for free there and back. I have the month of August. We’re going to HK for a couple days so we can got to Disneyland. What else? I don’t have to go “home” and I’ve decided that I don’t want to. I don’t want to sit in my apartment for three weeks. I don’t want to let the school pay for the air tickets to HK because it’s a waste–they’ll pay up to NT$40,000, and I’m pretty sure that’s what they’ll pay one way. So, tickets to just about anywhere should be covered,…

Hey everyone,
Question is exactly as the title suggests. Will be going for my first visa run in the 2nd week of May. I have never been to Hong Kong nor have I ever been to Tokyo. Was wondering everyone’s opinions on each of the cities. Which one do you think I should visit on on my 1st ever visa run. Let me say I will be staying 1 week in either of the cities. Again, I know everyone will have different opinions and there is no right answer. Just would love to hear everyone else’s opinions on th…
I’ve never been to Scotland and Ireland, the lands of my forebears. I hope that I can actualize that dream before my demise.
There are no other countries in Europe that I would give a shit to visit.
I’ve never been to South America. Would love to see Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru and Argentina.
Just 270km away from Hualian (if you go in an easterly direction) are Ishigaki Island (石垣島), Iriomote Island (西表島) and the other islands of the Yaeyama Archipelago (八重山諸島, the south-westernmost part of the Ryukyu Islands).
A newspaper in Hualian (更生日報) reported on December 8 that, starting in January, Hualian based Trans Asia Airways (復興航空社) - see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TransAsia_Airways for background info in English - will be offering direct flights from Hualien to Ishigaki on Tuesdays, Thursd…

What Travel Agent do you use here?
poll
Stumbled across a great travel agent. Sheree Lin, Champion Travel, Chung Shan N. Rd., 2561-6250, x. 215. Speaks great English, got me a great last minute deal (Singapore 4d/3n, airfare-hotel, NT$15,000), and sorted things out with my bank for me when I had a credit card problem. Nice lady, extremely helpful, restores your faith in Taiwanese. Give her a call.
My company is looking to appoint an agent/consultant for Taiwan work permit/visa application.
Kindly recommend an English speaking reliable agent/consultant.
Thanks

Hi all,
Any company here wanted to venture into Singapore market? I’m wanted to start my own clothing business and looking for supplier. Please message me if you have any interest, we can discuss more.
First of all, I am a new member here, just registered yesterday in fact. I am a Taiwanese who is pretty much Chinese illiterate. Studied English in Malaysia for 20+ years.
I am posting here seeking help after over 2years of failed job hunt attempts. I started looking for a job after I completed my compulsory military service on 2009. Its already 2011 and not one company have responded. I’ve been using resume templates provided by major job hunting sites like yes512.com.tw
A little about me:

So I’m starting up a company, and unfortunately will have to do for a little while the dreaded visa runs.
Having to live on the cheap, I’m looking at other alternatives than flying to HK or other countries.
If you have a multiple entry visa to Taiwan, you can simply take a boat to international waters. It costs 3000NTD, a few hours, and leaves from Keelung. URL of the company: starcruises.com/newweb/main.aspx
A cheaper alternative: Taking to the boat to Matzu (1400NTD) and then to Fu Jo in Ch…
Did any of you initially question becoming a teacher in Taiwan? I would really like to go to Taiwan, and I wouldn’t mind teaching, I just feel guilty not respecting my father’s wishes (he wants me to focus on my career) and not earning a reasonable income. I have just finished my first year of work at my company, but the strong desire to go to Taiwan just keeps getting to me sometimes.
Did any of you have any challenges or people that didn’t agree with your decision to go to Taiwan to teach? Ho…

Hello,
This is just me ranting. Be prepared for lots of "I"s.
I have been hired by Company A for nearly 2 1/2 months; and is nearing the end of my probationary period.
In Taiwan, it is considered to be a “good” job. I enjoy working. Well… most of the time. I just cant stand some of the people that I work with.
Originally, I applied for an entrance tech position in said company. However, after meeting with the president of the company, I was given the project manager position.
He was impress…
Hi, just following up on a post stating that teaching is a waste of time. For some it is and for others…
I was wondering if anyone knew of any headhunters or contacts to find non-teaching jobs. I have a business background and three years office experience but…but… no chinese.
Let me know ( arctor@hotmail.com ) if you have any leads. Right now my heart is not in teaching as it once was my first time in Taiwan.
thanks, Bob Arctor
Hi,
my name is Yuurı and i live on Ishigaki Island, about 250km off the east coast of Taiwan. (^^)
Pleased to meet you all!
Never having lived in Taiwan but thinking of spending 3-6 months at the east coast (Hualien looks like a good choice) in order to get a decent foundation in Chinese, i would like to check the collective’s wisdom about some issues that don’t seem to be talked about much (likely because they are rather rare). My questions - for today (^^) - are these:
Would anybody here k…
So I’m graduating in May, and I have been planning on moving to Taiwan to work for a few years as a break before grad school. I’ve been looking around for jobs, and there is a chance I’ll be getting a job as a proof reader for a Taiwanese translation firm. I’ve been in contact with someone at the company, and I’ve been trying to figure out what I’d be doing for a visa. In 2007 when I was studying in Taipei, I did two different language programs, for a total of 6 1/2 months, and had all sorts …
