This is good to know. Thank you.

Are the translations up to snuff? Sometimes the translations can make things even more complicated and confusing. Especially with immigration. Also, the English and Chinese versions do not always synch up.

In a word, no.

Exception: agreements (treaties, MOU’s, covenants, what have you) with foreign governments or de facto government representatives, when those agreements mention that the translations are equally valid.

Then there are the laws and regulations that haven’t been translated and therefore can only be found by searching in Chinese.

Teaching English to 6 yo or younger kids at kindergartens or buxibans

**Kindergartens **

  • Anyone without required credentials cannot teach anything legally in kindergartens.
  • Educators should be directly employed by kindergartens they teach at.
  • Kindergartens cannot provide work permits for foreigners.
  • It is illegal that kindergartens provide full or half day English classes, or teach English as a subject. (Just integrated English curriculum is allowed.)

This draft didnt pass Legislative Yuan, and was sent back to Executive Yuan. They did public hearing last summer.

Dependents of foreign professionals on ARC/APRC

Qualifications and Criteria Standards for foreigners undertaking the jobs specified under Article 46.1.1 to 46.1.6 of the Employment Service Act

Article 37-1 : Spouses of foreign professionals can get work permit for part time specialized and technical work.

Regulations Governing Visiting, Residency, and Permanent Residency of Aliens

Article 8 : Adult children of foreign professionals can get 3 year extension of ARC if they meet certain criteria.

Article 15 : dependents of foreigners who get APRC through investment can get APRC.

Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals

Article 17 : Adult children of foreign professionals on APRC can get open work permit if they meet certain criteria.

Article 16 : Dependents of foreign professionals on APRC can get APRC with 5 years of residency, after the professionals get APRC.
