Should I be worried about China?

I’m planning to come to Taiwan for PhD and probably stay at least a few years afterwards. How likely is it for the situation to get really serious, i.e military conflict or serious economic sanctions?

What are the chances of Taiwan becoming unified with the People's Republic of China by 2050?

I don’t think it’s likely. Personally I think Xi Jinping is just weak and he needs to create distractions for the Mainland Chinese so that they won’t take out their anger on him as economic growth continues to slow down. Also Taiwan’s coastline is quite difficult to invade and it also has a sophisticated missile system.

Options for getting out if China invades Taiwan

I’m just outside of Chiayi and am wondering what options I have for getting out of Taiwan if China invades. What thoughts or plans do others have in such an event?
